LISten Project is the new project by The Blank Educational aimed at increasing accessibility and inclusion of deaf people to the cultural program of The Blank and to the artistic heritage.
The Blank Educational LISten Project selected through an open call 9 deaf and hard hearing people with language skills in Italian Sign Language (LIS) and in Italian to start a training course related to art and cultural mediation.
LISten Project is finalized to the creation of a staff of mediators skilled in the field of contemporary art and art education, able to plan and conduct educational projects, guided tours and workshops that will be developed within the cultural program of The Blank and in synergy with the museums of Lombardy Region.
Candidates take part in a training program taking place between May and November at some of the major Italian institutions dedicated to modern and contemporary art, in collaboration with their educational departments: Accademia Carrara (Bergamo), GAMeC – Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (Bergamo), Mambo – Museo di Arte Moderna (Bologna), Pirelli HangarBicocca (Milan) and Castello di Rivoli Museo di Arte Contemporanea (Turin).
The meetings, conducted by museum professionals with the support of a LIS interpreter, allow to explore different collections and to study educational and accessibility projects developed by each institution. At the end of every training day, a focus is dedicated to the correct use of artistic terms in Italian Sign Language.
The project is carried out under the patronage of ENS – Ente Nazionale Sordi, with the support of Lombardy Region, Cariplo Foundation, ASM Foundation and Pio Istituto dei Sordi in Milan.
